8th Annual PD Walkers at the Des Moines Marathon
– October 17 and 18, 2015
What is PD Walkers?
PD Walkers is a group that is committed to raising funds for the IA Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association. The PD Walkers Team has participated in the Des Moines Marathon since 2008, had nearly 500 people participate and raised over $115,000 to help the APDA in their mission to Ease the Burden to Find a Cure for PD.
The goals of the PD Walkers Team is to raise awareness of Parkinson's, empower and inspire people with PD on the benefits of exercise and to ultimately help raise funds for PWP in the State of Iowa. The IA Chapter provides resources to help reach these goals.
The specific goal for the PD Walkers team this year is to help the Iowa Chapter fund exercise programs and train instructors to help teach Delay the Disease and other exercise classes across the State of Iowa. More and more research studies are showing that exercise can help manage PD symptoms better and in some cases may delay the progression of PD.
